Celebrating Roots and Rhythm Day at Gaia

This autumn, Gaia Organics invites you to celebrate Roots & Rhythm Day — a full day of workshops, food, music, and community connection under October skies. From ancient land-based skills to embodied healing and evening melodies, join us for a journey that nourishes both soil and soul.

Friday, October 3

🌟 Evening Workshop: Weaving Light & Fortune (6:30–9:00 PM)

Step into the golden glow of harvest traditions with Božena Hrycyna, learning to weave a straw prism mobile, known as a Pavuk. Rooted in Eastern and Northern European culture, these delicate talismans were believed to protect the home and invite blessings. You’ll leave with your own luminous straw creation, woven with heirloom grains and sacred geometry.

🌿 Scything Workshop (8:00 AM–12:00 PM)

Start the day in the fields with Božena for a hands-on introduction to the art of scything. Learn to set up and care for a scythe, practice efficient mowing techniques, and sharpen blades the traditional way. Perfect for homesteaders, gardeners, or anyone curious about low-impact, regenerative land stewardship. The workshop wraps up with a potluck and greenhouse chats.

🌾 Straw Plaiting: Harvest Tokens (1:00–3:00 PM)

In the afternoon, Božena returns to guide you through the timeless craft of straw weaving. Transform heirloom wheat and rye into keepsakes once known as Harvest Tokens or Farmers’ Favours. These ornaments — symbols of love, abundance, and protection — are perfect to keep, gift, or adorn your home.

🌱 Seed Paper Workshop (3:15–4:30 PM) – Marie-Eve

Join us for a hands-on, eco-friendly craft that blends creativity, sustainability, and the magic of seeds. Using recycled materials and native/wildflower seeds, you’ll create your own seed-embedded paper — textured sheets that can later be planted to grow flowers, herbs, or pollinator-friendly plants.

Together we’ll:

  • Blend and press recycled paper pulp into unique, beautiful sheets.
  • Infuse them with seeds ready to sprout into new life.
  • Shape your paper into cards, bookmarks, or gifts — perfect for sharing with friends or keeping as a reminder of the farm.

This family-friendly activity connects us to the cycle of renewal: transforming scraps into soil-ready creations that will bloom in seasons to come. You’ll head home with your own piece of living art.

🌸 Plants & Movement Meditation (5:30–7:00 PM)

Join Flutra Zymi for a meditative workshop blending movement, sound, and plant wisdom. Through mudras, sound vibration, asanas, and intuitive flow, reconnect with your body and awaken the inner forest of healing.

🎶 Under the Stars Concert (7:30–9:00 PM + Fire Jam)

As twilight falls, gather for an uplifting evening of music with Akhil Nair and Evan Runge. Together, their violin, percussion, and voice weave meditative soundscapes that open the heart. Bring a blanket or chair, breathe the crisp autumn air, and let the melodies carry you into stillness and joy. After the concert, stay for a community fire and jam session — feel free to bring your own instrument.
