Evidence of natural dyeing in numerous ancient societies has been unearthed all over the world. Textile remnants coloured red from the roots of an ancient world madder plant (Rubia tinctoria) were discovered in Pakistan circa 2500 BC. Similar coloured textiles were discovered in Egyptian tombs.
