Grow your own birdhouse! A useful, durable gourd which is fun to grow. Harvest when the smooth, greenish rind turns white or starts to brown. Average size 10-12”.

Companion plants: Catnip, Radish, Beans, Oregano, Chives, Marjoram, Leek.
Far from: Potato.
Planting tip: Sow seeds indoors 3-4 weeks before the last frost.
Harvesting tip: In late summer, the gourd’s ripe when its skin’s exceedingly hard, impossible to dent with a fingernail. Another indicator’s when the stem & leaves begin to wither and turn brown. Keep ~2″ of stem when removing.
Storage tip: Cure gourds in a warm, dry, well-ventilated area for several months until they feel lightweight and rattle when shaken. Store cured gourds in a cool, dry place.

Récolte: À la fin de l’été, la peau de la courge devrait être extrêmement dure, impossible à pénétrer avec un ongle. Le fait de laisser les courges sur la vigne jusqu’à ce que la tige et les feuilles de la courge commencent à se flétrir et à devenir brunes est également une bonne indication de la maturité. Retirez la courge en laissant environ 2″ de tige.
Entreposage: Laissez sécher les calebasses dans un endroit chaud, sec et bien aéré pendant plusieurs mois, jusqu’à ce qu’elles soient légères et sonnent faux lorsqu’on les secoue. Conservez-les ensuite dans un endroit frais et sec.
