Tall heirloom. Produces huge seed heads. The seeds colour up and turn shiny as they mature. Stalks can actually be tied together and used for sweeping. The multi-coloured seed heads often used as fall decorations.

Planting tip: Direct sow in clumps of four seeds per hole. Four seeds should yield about three uniform stalks and heads, enough to make a few dried arrangements for ornamental use. For grain production, plant one seed every 4″ in 30-inch spaced rows. It can also be started indoors 2 weeks ahead of time.
Harvesting tip: Harvest when seeds are hard & glossy. Cut seed heads off with a bit of stalk attached. Dry in a warm, well-ventilated place for at least a week, then roll dried seed heads on a hardware cloth screen or soil sieve to free seeds and separate them from plant debris.
Storage tip: Store in a zip-lock bag in the refridgerator.

Patrimoine de grande taille. Produit d’énormes têtes de graines. Les graines se colorent et deviennent brillantes à mesure qu’elles mûrissent. Les tiges peuvent en fait être attachées ensemble et utilisées pour le balayage. Les têtes de graines multicolores sont souvent utilisées comme décorations d’automne.

Ensemencement: Semez directement en pleine terre, en poquets de quatre graines. Quatre graines devraient donner environ trois tiges et épis uniformes, de quoi réaliser quelques bouquets de fleurs séchées à usage ornemental. Pour la production de grains, semez une graine tous les 10 cm (4 pouces) sur des rangs espacés de 75 cm (30 pouces). Vous pouvez également démarrer la culture à l’intérieur deux sem. à l’avance.
Récolte: Récoltez lorsque les graines sont dures et brillantes. Coupez les capitules en laissant un petit morceau de tige. Faites-les sécher dans un endroit chaud et bien aéré pendant au moins une semaine, puis roulez-les sur un tamis à mailles fines ou un tamis à terre pour libérer les graines et les séparer des débris végétaux.
Entreposage: Conservez dans un sac à fermeture éclair au réfrigérateur.
