An Appalachian heirloom, possibly originating in North Carolina. Bred by Paul Hauser of Lincoln University, Pa. Matures when size is that of buttercup-shaped and skin color of pinkish-orange with blue-green markings. Warmth brings out the sweetness in the squash.

Vitamins+: A++, B9+, C+, K+, Mn, P, Lutein, Zeaxanthin
Companion plants: Corn, Pole Beans, Peas, Radish, Sunflower, Parsley, Celery, Buckwheat, Nastertium, Marigold, Oregano. 
Far from: Tomato, Eggplant, Potato, Pepper.
Planting tip: Soak in warm water up to 24H & scarify to improve germination. Can start indoors 3-4 weeks before last frost.||Move outside in late May, early June, when soil reaches 25°C.
Harvesting tip: Mature fruit has a rich color & rinds are hard to dent with a fingernail. The ground spot gets riper in color too (yellow to cream, gold to orange). Cut 2” stem to avoid rot from the stem. Must cure in dry and warm place.
Storage tip: Store at 10-12°C w/ 55-75% humidity & good air flow.

Un hĂ©ritage des Appalaches, probablement originaire de la Caroline du Nord. CultivĂ©e par Paul Hauser de l’UniversitĂ© de Lincoln, Pa. Mature lorsque sa forme ressemble Ă  celle d’un bouton-d’or et que la couleur de la peau est rose-orange avec des marques bleu-vert. La chaleur fait ressortir la douceur de la courge.

Ensemencement: Faites tremper les graines dans de l’eau tiède pendant 24 heures maximum et scarifiez-les pour favoriser la germination. Vous pouvez commencer les semis Ă  l’intĂ©rieur 3 Ă  4 sem. avant les dernières gelĂ©es. Repiquez-les Ă  l’extĂ©rieur fin mai, dĂ©but juin, lorsque la °T du sol atteint 25 °C.
RĂ©colte: Les fruits mĂ»rs ont une couleur riche, une Ă©corce difficile Ă  creuser avec l’ongle. La couleur de la tache au sol devient plus mĂ»re aussi (jaune Ă  crème, or Ă  orange). Couper Ă  2″ de tige pour Ă©viter la pourriture par la tige. MĂ»rir dans un endroit sec et chaud.
