Chili hot peppers can be grown in regions with short growing seasons. They prefer well-drained soil amended with compost. Start seeds indoors 8-12 weeks before the last frost date. Plant outdoors after all danger of frost has passed and night temperatures are consistently warm. Overwatering can cause wilting, curling, and yellowing leaves, stunted growth, root rot, and attract pests. Allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings is beneficial.
