From June through September, this tiny shrub produces an abundance of blossoms and requires little maintenance. Contains large levels of tannins. Infusions made from the root are used as an astringent to cleanse and soothe the skin. Even some anti-wrinkle cosmetics utilise it as an ingredient. Has been proven to be helpful in easing withdrawal from addictive alkaloids and is useful and effective as a detoxifying agent. ID: 50558 | Planting Tip: Prefers sandy soil that is slightly acidic to neutral in pH. Thrives in a sunny spot in the garden, but likes some shade in the afternoon. Harvesting Tip: Its thick rhizome may also be picked to provide a crimson dye that has been used for ages to colour leather. Leaves and roots can be infused into a carrier oil and then turned into a topical ointment. Storage Tip: Dry leaves and flowers in a cool, dark place. Store in airtight containers away from light. |
