Hopi Black Dye Sunflower 8’ tall stem. 12-18” flower heads that has golden-yellow petals with dark purple-green center. Rare heirloom variety the Hopis. Hopis used as natural dye source for coloring baskets purplish charcoal. Seeds are edible and very easy to hull. Mound soil at the base of the stem to prevent lodging. Attractive to pollinators. Companion plants: Bush beans, Squash, Cucumber, Corn, Lettuce, Any plant with aphids. Planting tip: Direct sow outdoors end of May.
