Grown in our region as an annual. Often used as a dye plant since prehistoric times. An eco-friendly alternative to synthetic dyes where leaves are fermented to produce a bright blue dye. Need long growing season must start as early as January in Zone 5 for decent harvest potential. Drought is tolerant. For the best germination rate soak the seeds in water overnight. The roots don’t like to be disturbed so starting them in a bigger pot for the least disturbance of roots. Transplant once or twice before final transplant in the fields.

Cultivée dans notre région comme une annuelle. Plante tinctoriale utilisée depuis la préhistoire. Une alternative écologique aux teintures synthétiques. Fermenter ses feuilles pour produire une teinture bleu vif. Nécessite une longue saison de croissance, doit être partie dès janvier dans la zone 5 pour un potentiel de récolte décent. La sécheresse est tolérée. Pour obtenir un taux de germination optimal, faites tremper les graines dans l’eau pendant une nuit. Les racines n’aiment pas être dérangées, alors partez les semis dans un pot plus grand pour les déranger le moins possible. Transplanter une ou deux fois avant la transplantation finale dans les champs.
