The Iroquois Cornbread Bean comes from Norton Rickard, a Tuscarora elder, who received it in his youth through his older brother from a Tuscarora elder in New York near the Pennsylvania border. She emphasized its cultural importance and instructed that it always be grown. The beans are traditionally used by the Tuscarora people to make bean bread, a staple dish of boiled corn flour and beans. The plants are sturdy, low-maintenance bushes producing heavy yields of large, plump, oblong dry beans. … Vitamins+: B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9+, C, K, Ca, Fe, K, Mg, P, Zn+ Companions: Corn, Carrot, Cabbage, Cucumber, Pea, Radish, Potato, Squash, Nasturtium, Rosemary.
