‘Lal Mirch’ simply means ‘red chilli’ in Hindi and Urdu — a name reflecting how deeply embedded this pepper type is in daily South Asian cooking. Small, thin-walled, intensely red fruits with a sharp, clean heat and slightly fruity undertone. The workhorse of Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi cuisines: dried whole for tempering, ground for masala blends, or used fresh in chutneys and pickles. Vitamins+: A, B6, C+++., K+., Capsaicin. Companions: Alliums, Basil, Tomato, Spinach, Oregano, Marjoram, Nasturtium, Marigold. Far from: Beans, Brassicas, Fennel. GaiaOrganics.ca |
