This exclusive deep purple snow pea variety features beautiful 3–3 1/2″ pods with a mild, slightly bitter flavor. It makes a striking addition to salads, cole slaws, or as an edible garnish. Best enjoyed raw, it retains its purple hue when lightly cooked but may lose color if overcooked. The plants, with 30″ pink-flowered vines, produce 2 pods per node. Bred by the late Dr. Calvin Lamborn, this pea is both visually appealing and versatile in the kitchen. ID: 57590 | Planting Tip: Direct sow is recommended. Can be planted in late summer for a fall crop. Hot and dry conditions are not ideal for peas. Harvesting Tip: Harvest immature and flat edible-pod before the seeds begin to fill out. Harvest every other day to keep pods from getting too big. Snow peas can be eaten whole pod and all or shelled just like garden peas. Storage Tip: Store at 1-2°C for around a week. |
