A slender, bullet-shaped pepper that packs a fierce, clean heat with a bright, grassy bite. Serranos are the workhorse of Mexican cooking — sharper and hotter than a jalapeño, with a crisp flesh that holds up beautifully in fresh salsas, pico de gallo, and hot sauces. Pick them green for punch or let them ripen red for a deeper, slightly sweeter heat. Vitamins+: A, B6, C+++., K+., Capsaicin. Companions: Alliums, Basil, Tomato, Spinach, Oregano, Marjoram, Nasturtium, Marigold. Far from: Beans, Brassicas, Fennel. GaiaOrganics.ca |
