Excellent for crafts and fun to grow, these gourds will delight with their swan-like shape. The base can be up to 8″ across, and 14-18″ long with a flat bottom, while the neck resembles a swan’s neck curved elegantly downward. These gourds are green with creamy speckles, and the shell is glossy and hard when dried. At maturity, the vines of this plant reach the length of 12-16′. Many gardeners choose to grow gourds vertically to save gardening space. Vitamins+: B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9+, C++, K, K+ Companions: Catnip, Radish, Beans, Oregano, Chives, Marjoram, Leek. ID: 50359 | Planting Tip: Sow seeds indoors 3-4 weeks before the last frost. Harvesting Tip: In late summer, the gourd’s ripe when its skin’s exceedingly hard, impossible to dent with a fingernail. Another indicator’s when the stem & leaves begin to wither and turn brown. Keep ~2″ of stem when removing. Storage Tip: Cure gourds in a warm, dry, well-ventilated area for several months until they feel lightweight and rattle when shaken. Store cured gourds in a cool, dry place. |
