A low-growing perennial herb with aromatic, oblong, gray-green leaves that extend to about 1 inch long, it has a mounded, shrubby appearance. From mid- to late summer, little white or pink blooms appear, though they are not particularly striking. Marjoram grows slowly and gradually spreads to cover a large area. It is best planted in the spring. both antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. It has been used medicinally to assist cure a number of conditions, such as infections, menstrual pain, and digestive problems.

Planting tip: Sow seeds indoors 6 to 10 weeks before the last frost. Lightly cover soil. Direct sowing is not recommended.
Harvesting tip: Remove no more than one-third of the plant’s leaves in a single harvest, shortly after flower buds emerge but before they open. Remove the leaves off the stem once they have dried. Harvest again later in the season when flower buds emerge.
