A Northwest heirloom, this round, 10-15lbs slate-gray squash has amazing preserving qualities and an unparalleled rich, sweet flavor. Makes the best pumpkin pie on Earth! Produces quick growing, thick, 12″–18″ tall,  6–10′ long vines. Trichomes (tiny hairs) are seen on it’s leaves & vines. The trumpet-shaped flowers are yellow-orange.
Companion plants: Corn, Pole beans, Peas, Radish, Sunflower, Parsley, Celery, Buckwheat, Nastertium, Marigold, Oregano. 
Far from: Tomato, Eggplant, Potato, Pepper.
Planting tip: Soak in warm water up to 24H & scarify to improve germination. direct-seed late May, early June, when soil reaches 25°C. Can start indoors 3-4 weeks before last frost, move outside once soil reaches 25°C.
Harvesting tip: Mature fruit has a rich color & rinds are hard to dent with a fingernail. The ground spot gets riper in color too (yellow to cream, gold to orange). Cut 2” stem to avoid rot from the stem. Must cure in dry and warm place.
Storage tip: Store at 10-12°C w/ 55-75% humidity & good air flow.

Un héritage du N.-O. des USA, cette courge gris ardoise, ronde, de 10-15 lb, se converve exceptionnellement bien et sa saveur riche et sucrée est inégalée. Donne la meilleure tarte à la citrouille sur terre! Produit des vignes épaisses de hauteur 12-18″, longueur 6-10′ et pousse rapidement. Des trichomes (poils minuscules) sont visibles sur les feuilles et vignes. Les fleurs en forme de trompette sont jaune/orange.
Plantes compagnes: Maïs, haricots grimpants, pois, radis, tournesol, persil, céleri, sarrasin, capucine, souci, origan.
Loin de: Tomate, aubergine, patate, poivron.
Ensemencement: Tremper dans l’eau chaude jusqu’à 24H et scarifier pour mieux germer. Planter directement dehors, fin mai, début juin, quand le sol atteint 25°C. Peut débuter à l’intérieur 3-4 sem. avant le dernier gel. Planter dehors quand le sol atteint 25°C.
Récolte: Les fruits mûrs ont une couleur riche, une écorce difficile à creuser avec l’ongle. La couleur de la tache au sol devient plus mûre aussi (jaune à crème, or à orange). Couper à 2″ de tige pour éviter la pourriture par la tige. Mûrir dans un endroit sec et chaud.
Entreposage: Stocker à 10-12°C, 55-75% d’humidité et une bonne circulation d’air.
