ID: 63990 | Planting Tip: Transplant out after last frost when soil °T is above 21°C. Provide trellis for vigorous vines. Pinch flowers to direct energy to tuber growth. Only tubers are edible; all other plant parts are toxic. Harvesting Tip: Harvest before first frost when vines begin to yellow and die back. Stop watering 2 weeks before harvest to improve storage life. Carefully dig with a fork to avoid damaging tubers. Cure in a warm, dry spot at 27°C for 1-2 weeks. Storage Tip: Store cured tubers in a cool, dry place at 13-16°C. Do not refrigerate as cold °T damage texture. Properly cured jicama keeps for 2-3 months. Cut jicama should be refrigerated and used within a week. |
