Butternut is the most cold-hardy walnut native to North America (Turtle Island), valued for its rich edible nuts, quality timber, and ornamental beauty. Trees feature elongated compound leaves, furrowed bark, and can reach 60–80′ tall. Suitable for Zones 4a–8, they are self-fertile, though planting 2 or more trees improves nut production.
