Corn’s current history began around 10,000 years ago. When ancient farmers decided which kernels to plant, they made the initial steps in corn cultivation. Corn is derived from the wild grass species teosinte, which is still flourishing in Mexico today. Corn was transported up the Mississippi River by Native Americans.
