Donated to Arthur Dostal by SSE. A variety allegedly acquired from family friends by Lewis and Mary Dostal of Tama County, Iowa, who raised him. Begins as cream-white and green, maturing to dark green. When cultivated as a winter squash, it has a sweet flavour and a buttery smooth texture. Summer squash is equally tasty.
Companion plants: Corn, Pole beans, Peas, Radish, Sunflower, Parsley, Celery, Buckwheat, Nastertium, Marigold, Oregano. 
Far from: Tomato, Eggplant, Potato, Pepper.
Planting tip: Soak in warm water up to 24H & scarify to improve germination. direct-seed late May, early June, when soil reaches 25°C. Can start indoors 3-4 weeks before last frost, move outside once soil reaches 25°C.
Harvesting tip: Mature fruit has a rich color & rinds are hard to dent with a fingernail. The ground spot gets riper in color too (yellow to cream, gold to orange). Cut 2” stem to avoid rot from the stem. Must cure in dry and warm place.
Storage tip: Store at 10-12°C w/ 55-75% humidity & good air flow.

Offerte à Arthur Dostal par SSE. Variété prétendument acquise auprès d’amis de la famille par Lewis et Mary Dostal de Tama County, Iowa, qui l’ont cultivée. Elle commence par être de couleur blanc crème et verte, puis mûrit en vert foncé. Lorsqu’elle est cultivée comme courge d’hiver, elle a une saveur sucrée et une texture lisse comme du beurre. La courge d’été est tout aussi savoureuse.
Plantes compagnes: Maïs, haricots grimpants, pois, radis, tournesol, persil, céleri, sarrasin, capucine, souci, origan.
Loin de: Tomate, aubergine, patate, poivron.
Ensemencement: Tremper dans l’eau chaude jusqu’à 24H et scarifier pour mieux germer. Planter directement dehors, fin mai, début juin, quand le sol atteint 25°C. Peut débuter à l’intérieur 3-4 sem. avant le dernier gel. Planter dehors quand le sol atteint 25°C.
Récolte: Les fruits mûrs ont une couleur riche, une écorce difficile à creuser avec l’ongle. La couleur de la tache au sol devient plus mûre aussi (jaune à crème, or à orange). Couper à 2″ de tige pour éviter la pourriture par la tige. Mûrir dans un endroit sec et chaud.
Entreposage: Stocker à 10-12°C, 55-75% d’humidité et une bonne circulation d’air.
