If you’ve struggled with growing okra in the past, this may be the okra for you. As opposed to most named varieties, which are bred for uniformity, this is a diverse landrace population. The seeds of some plants have very high oil content. Originally collected by the little-known but prolific USDA agricultural explorer E.E. Smith in 1954. Variety adapted to our northeastern region.
Companion plants: Lettuce, Peas, Radish, Pepper, Tomato, Beans, Sunflower, Basil, Melon, Eggplant, Cucumber. 
Far from: Rhubarb, Garlic.
Planting tip: Soaking in warm water for up to 12H is recommended for improved germination. Start indoors 6 weeks before the transplanting date. Delicate roots so handle carefully when transplanting. Okra can survive dry conditions but fruits well adequate water.
Harvesting tip: Harvest often to get more fruits. Harvest every 2-3 days.
Storage tip: Okra pods will keep well for 7-10 days in aerated plastic bag or container at 7-10°C

Si vous avez eu du mal à cultiver le gombo dans le passé, ceci est le gombo pour vous. Contrairement à la plupart des variétés nommées, qui sont sélectionnées pour l’uniformité, il s’agit d’une population de landrace diversifiée. Les semences de certaines plantes ont une teneur en huile très élevée. Originellement collecté par l’explorateur agricole peu connu mais prolifique de l’USDA, E.E. Smith, en 1954. Variété adaptée à notre région du nord-est.
Plantes compagnes: Laitue, pois, radis, poivron, tomate, haricot, tournesol, basilic, melon, aubergine, concombre.
Loin de: Rhubarbe, ail.
Ensemencement: Le trempage dans l’eau chaude pendant 12H maximum est recommandé pour améliorer la germination. Commencez à l’intérieur 6 sem. avant la date de transplantation. Les racines sont délicates, il faut donc les manipuler avec soin lors du repiquage. Le gombo peut survivre à des conditions sèches mais fructifie bien s’il a suffisamment d’eau.
Récolte: Récoltez souvent pour obtenir plus de fruits. Récoltez tous les 2-3 jours.
Entreposage: Les gousses de gombo se conservent bien pendant 7-10 jours dans un sac en plastique aéré ou un récipient à 7-10°C.
