A French heirloom variety. Long red peppers. The treasured chilli of the Basque country, known for its robust and slightly smoky flavor. The Espelette Pepper has become a cultural and culinary icon in the Basque country where it has gained controlled-name status. This is a landrace variety that was introduced into the Nive Valley by Gonzalo Percaztegi in 1523, and grown in the Basque region and especially the village of Espelette since. Plant is from 2 – 5′ tall, has good yields of more aromatic and sweeter than hot peppers maturing from green to a deep red, usually from 15 – 30 per plant.
Companion plants: Alliums, Basil, Tomato, Spinach, Oregano, Marjoram, Nasturtium, Marigold.
Far from: Beans, Brassicas, Fennel.
Planting tip: Sow indoors 6-8 weeks before planting date. For best results harden off at 18-19°C
Harvesting tip: Ready to harvest as soon as they’ve achieved their final colour. Harvest first fruit promptly to stimulate production.
Storage tip: Store at 10-12°C w/ relative humidity of 95%

Une variété française héritée. Longs piments rouges. Le piment le plus apprécié du Pays Basque, connu pour sa saveur robuste et légèrement fumée. Le piment d’Espelette est devenu une icône culturelle et culinaire au Pays basque où il a acquis le statut de nom contrôlé. Il s’agit d’une variété landrace qui a été introduite dans la vallée de la Nive par Gonzalo Percaztegi en 1523, et cultivée dans la région basque et surtout dans le village d’Espelette depuis. La plante a une hauteur de 2 à 5 pieds et donne de bons rendements de piments plus aromatiques et plus doux que piquants, qui mûrissent du vert au rouge profond, généralement de 15 à 30 par plante

Loin de: Fèves, Brassicassés, Fenouil.
Ensemencement: Semer à l’intérieur 6 à 8 sem. avant la date de plantation. Pour un meilleur résultat, faites-les endurcir à 18-19°C
Récolte: Prêts à être récoltés dès leur couleur finale atteinte. Récolter promptement afin de stimuler la production.
Entreposage: Stockez à 10-12°C avec humidité relative de 95%.
